Late nights and sickness
What a night. Evan has RVS (not real sure what that is), but it requires a nebulizer to help treat it. He also has new teeth coming in. Combine being sick with teeth and you get a kid who doesn’t want to eat or sleep. Finally rocked him to sleep after many hours. I was afraid to move him because I thought he might wake up. Luckily Christy was able to get him to bed. I hope he feels better soon.

Installing a certificate on Lync Edge Server
Just a note to myself, when installing a certificate and using either the mmc or the lync deployment wizard, the private key does not come in with the certificate which makes it inaccessible to assign to the edge role. When importing the certificate, go into IIS and use the ‘Complete Certificate Request’ option under server certificates to apply the certificate to the computer. This lets the certificate be accessible to the lync deployment wizard.

Hummingbird
I just saw my first real live hummingbird in the wild. It flew to our front porch and started hovering while eating out of our plants in the front. I was surprised at how big the bird was and how fast it could fly. My camera taking skills were too slow to capture a picture, but maybe I will see it again in the future.

Earthquake 2011
So where were you during the earthquake of 2011? I was sitting in my office wondering why the people were running around on the floor above me. Then I was wondering what they were throwing around. Finally I was like, either the crane fell on our building it’s an earthquake. Almost everyone started filing outdoors, but by then it was over. That. Had to be one of the weirdest things because I did not expect it to happen. Luckily it was not too bad but just like during other major occurrences, cell phones stopped working. Actually land lines and cell towers became overwhelmed and were useless for a short while. Eventually I was able to talk to friends and family and determine everyone was fine. I don’t think I will ever forget the weird feeling of helplessness, I guess you just have to ride these things out. Nothing like a hurricane or tornado that you can usually hear or see coming or have advanced warnings.

New Ceiling in our Dining Room.
It only took a year, but the ceiling is now up in the dining room. The day that we were moving in, the toilet overflowed for about 10 or 15 minutes upstairs and no one noticed. It ended up leaking onto the ceiling of the dining room and messed up almost all of the drywall, so we took it down. Now, a little over a year later, with the help of my dad, we got the ceiling up again. I still have to tape, mud and paint it, but at least it is closer to being done. I rented a drywall lift, wow that was a time saver. I also removed all of the metal post holders that were left in our yard after removing the old fence. I was worried that someone would trip and land on one and we would be liable. Now that is no longer a worry. Hopefully our old windows will also be replaced in the next month or so. The guy came and took measurements and tested for lead. He said we were lead free so that was good news. Little by little, things are getting done, but now we are going to need more furniture to fill up the rooms.

I got a Greivis Vasquez signed basketball….Totally cool.
This gallery contains 2 photos.
It's been a year and still getting settled.
We finished the first project of grading the yard, but never updated the status. We also planted a bunch of bushes in the front yard and built a fence in our backyard. We planted 1 azalea, 5 shamrock inkberries and one evergreen tree whose name escapes me. We still have not fixed the ceiling in our dining room, but that should be done in the next few weeks, just getting to the motivated state. Also we were going to try to get windows replaced in our house, but so far we have had two cancellations with salespeople. If they think this is the way to convince us to spend money with them, they are sadly mistaken. It’s like being in school and listening to reasons why homework is not done.

Project #1 update
It looks like the grading went fairly well. We ended up with a little bit extra dirt, but we will find places to put it. Unfortunately (?) we got torrential downpours the day after we got most of the dirt spread around. I have not walked back to see if most of grass seed is gone or not, but it should dry out pretty quickly. Christy has started landscaping and I did some basic yard work like fertilizing. Internally we still have the ceiling in the dining room and basement to work on, the sink in the hallway bathroom and the toilet in our master bath. On top of that, we need to at least start on the fence an dig around where the utilities are so that we don’t have to get them remarked.

Project #1 – Grading the yard.
Our first outdoor project this year is to take all this dirt and use it to direct water away from our house. This is 5 cubic yards of topsoil. I bought a wheelbarrow earlier this week and already broke it just one day in. I don’t know if the dirt was too heavy or what, but stay away from plastic bodied wheelbarrows. We also went to a meeting about the drainage pipe that the town wants to install in our backyard and it looks like they are going to actually get started on the project in the next couple of weeks. They will do a little work up by our house and then we will not see them again until the fall when they tear up our yard.
