Changing backends for my blog.

I am trying out WordPress as a replacement to NucleusCMS. No real reason, just wanted to try something different. I kept some of the old posts, but went ahead and left some off as well. So far it seems pretty easy to use, but I have not tried any major configuration changes to it yet.

Just writing to write. Tower Records is closing.

Figured I should post something, even if it is nothing. I really feel bad about Tower Records closing. It was one of the few places locally that you could go to and almost guarantee that if you wanted something, they would have it. I stopped by this past week and picked up some albums at 1/2 price, which is probably part of the reason they went out of business. They were all listed at 16 to 21 dollars full price, which is a lot more than what amazon, target, or walmart would sell them for. Those places probably don’t have the same selection though. I hope to make it back out there before they shut their doors though, maybe the sales will be a little more and the selection will not be too bad.

Expensive Electronics and Dogs

Isn’t it funny how man’s best friend has a knack for always finding the most expensive things to use as chew toys? There can be frisbees, cups, paper towels, and cell phones and they seem to be attracted to the cell phones. Last night one of our dogs got a hold of my cell phone, boy was i bummed. I didn’t get mad since I left it within reach and it is still usable with some tape holding the battery in. This has been a bad year for me and electronics. The one day I left my car unlocked I also lost a portable gps unit and a satellite radio receiver. The bright side is it gives me reasons to upgrade. Now the search for a new phone begins.

Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007

This is a brief overview about what I have noticed in MOSS 2007. First there are a couple of new features that I like but they seem to have some shortcomings. The first is the Forms Authentication. It is not to hard to setup when you follow the guides that are available on the web. The issue with this is that you can not use Sharepoint Designer 2007 to modify the site once this is setup. The problem seems to be that Designer uses Windows Authentication and there is no way to change this. The second thing that I like is the Administration page. It is easier to move around and accomplish things once you get used to the layout. The problem with this is that it does not seem very intuitive at first. It took me a little while to get comfortable with the new layout. I also like the extra templates that are supplied with MOSS 2007. The feature that I really appreciate the most is that it is a lot easier to set it up with anonymous access and to restrict access to certain pages. This makes it much more usable as a web front end to the internet. This allows the software to be used in a lot of new ways. I might post more as I get more used to the product.

What is up with big business and the internet?

How can companies believe that it is a good thing to charge others to allow them to access their content? So I will have to pay someone so that no one will come to my page instead of having free access to this blog? I fully support having the internet be free. The providers are already getting tons of money from everyone just to get to the initial gateway. They get anywhere from 15 to 50 dollars for private citizens paying for dsl, cable, dial-up and satelitte. They also get hundreds to thousands of dollars from companies paying for these same services with T1’s and faster access. When is enough going to satisfy these companies. It is turning into the same thing as the oil companies charging their outrageous prices for gasoline. I can’t wait until the perfect another source of energy. Why should any company give a retirement package coming close to $100 million dollars, when they are raping the common public. Capatalism is a good thing, but these are gross abuses of the free system.

Back to School

Now that we are all settled in, Pharaoh is back in school. He is retaking puppy kindergarten. So far it seems like this is a real good idea. It helps that he gets really good treats at school. He is getting Omaha Steaks Beef Jerkey for dogs. Sometimes, it seems like he eats better than us. We had him on a raw food diet, but he did not seem to enjoy eating it and seemed to be losing a little weight. We decided to change his diet (again) to INNOVA Evo dog food. He appears to enjoy it and eats a good amount of it. This dog food is grain free, so there are no fillers according to the bag. I think it is a fairly good food from watching him.

Visiting the farm.

Pharaoh went on a trip to visit the farm this weekend. He was initially overwhelmed by the number of animals running around. He also heard roosters crowing in the middle of the night which kept him at attention for quite a while. He did ok on his potty training while on vacation. He used the papers 25 percent of the time. Not too bad for being in new surroundings. He was very happy to get home though.

Pharaoh and Santa

Last evening, Pharaoh made an excursion out to see Santa and have his picture taken. I think that he was overwhelmed with all of the other dogs in attendance. He did pretty good but seemed a little nervous. He also went on a trip to visit more people over the weekend. He has good aim as he relieved himself into a shoe. I don’t think that even I could make it into a shoe without missing a little bit. Otherwise, his potty training seems to be going ok. He also is settleing in more and is not as concerned when people are not in the same room as him.

Pharaoh Used the Litter Box

Today was a good day for Pharaoh. First he used the litterbox this morning to relieve himself. Then he used a puddle pad for number 2. He still does not like it when we are not in his line of site, but he settles down eventually. Yesterday he got to go to Petsmart and continue working on his socialization skills. He met a Pomerainian that he eventually started to warm up to. He really likes his new toy, a plush octopus. He also likes his bone a lot. Hopefully soon he will be in training, but I still need to make an appointment.
